The Calvary Choir

Sing Joyfully, Unto God Our Strength

Calvary Episcopal Church supports and maintains a historically remarkable music program. The choir is led by Jacob Cook, Director of Music. We are also happy to have Owen Sammons as our organist. From 1964 until their retirement, Calvary's choir was led by Melvin and Margaret Dickinson, founders of the Louisville Bach Society. Margaret continues to contribute to our music program through her role as Musician Emerita.

The Choir’s diverse repertoire consists of traditional and contemporary expressions of Anglican choral music as well as other sacred music from other classical traditions.  With Calvary being the home of one of the finest choral libraries in Louisville,

The Choir sings at the 10:30a.m. worship service each Sunday as well as Choral Evensong and Bach Vesper Services, detailed under the Calvary Music page. A cornerstone of the Anglican choral tradition, the Choir leads the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. In 2018, Calvary hosted the first Louisville Three Choirs Festival, joining the Choirs of Christ Church Cathedral and the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption to share their musical traditions.

Our Choir is an exceptional group of singers including professional section leaders as well as talented church members—and some who are both.
