Vestry  Meeting

June 18, 2002

 

Attendees:  Will Cary, Bill Crawford, Jamie Hendon, Joan Wempe, Dorn Crawford,

Clyde Warner, Ruth Robins, Jeff Webb, Gail Richardson, Ginger Grizzle, Harvey Turner, Art Dietz, Don Snow and Beverly Haverstock

 

The meeting opened at 5:20 p.m. with a prayer led by Will Cary. Corrections to the May meeting minutes were noted and then the minutes were approved (Grizzle, Wempe)

 

Committee Reports:

Personell, Planning & Volunteers

·        Reminder of Calvary at the Louisville Bats game Sunday August 11th

·        Gail Richardson, after a discussion with a parishioner, emphasized the need to follow-up with volunteers and incorporate them wholly in projects

 

Budget and Finance

·        Harvey Turner reviewed income and expenses through May. He also reviewed income through June 16th i.e. pledges. Look for the traditional summer slowdown

May Treasurer’s report approved (Cary, Webb)

 

·        We have established a Rector’s Transition Fund funded with reserves.  Harvey recommended notifying the Parish of the general terms of Rev. Culpepper’s severance package

·        Reserves also funded the current Diocesan payment

 

Building, House and Grounds

·        Dorn Crawford stated that several projects-changes in the parking lot and the painting of the front doors(thank you Jeff & Will) continue

·        The desire to re-establish grounds program i.e. the Garden Guild was discussed

 

Stewardship

·        Ruth Robins and Ginger Grizzle stated that after a brief sojourn the committee will be returning to action

·        October 13, 2002 establish as Stewardship Sunday

 

Jr. Warden’s Report

A lot of time has been focused on short-term demands, Will stated that is important to re-address long term plans and wishes ex. restoration of paintings, pay back Endowment on an established schedule, etc.

Will stated that he would find and distribute a Long Range Plan established approximated six years ago

 

Sr. Warden Report

Bishop Gulick invited his friends Rev. Andrew Macbeth and his wife Sybil to visit Calvary. Rev Macbeth discussed several good points about Calvary and its current situation in a discussion with Bill Crawford.

Bill suggests we approach Rev. Soards to help with one Sunday service per month as a support to Rev. Humke. As done in the past we appreciate Rev. Humke stepping in during our time of need.

 

Old Business

 

·        Dorn Crawford led a discussion concerning the establishment of an Ad hoc Committee on Transition (ACT)- see attached.

·        Will Cary mentioned a discussion with Ward Ewing, Dean of the General Seminary (N.Y.), to get ideas on the best ways to go forward.

·        After much discussion it became clear that a “Process” must be established.

·        Next Tuesday June 25th at 5:15 p.m. we will try to get the previous Search Committee to review their experiences and comments.

·        Jamie Hendon suggested we carry on with the Vestry review of current staffing conditions.  The P.P.V. will forward to the Vestry all the current job descriptions.

·        Art Dietz suggested Vestry retreat is in order.  No date at this time was suggested.

 

The meeting ended at 7:45 p.m. with a prayer led by Joan Wempe.
