She thanked the vestry for the gift.
Committee
Reports:
Finance
Report
Andrea
Morris presented the financial statements through November 2005. Laina Brown noted that the “parish life”
line item doesn’t reflect true expenses, in particular those associated with
special receptions. Many people have
paid for special receptions from their own pockets. She suggested we need more accountability to more accurately
reflect actual costs. Andrea noted this
line item in the 2006 budget has been increased to $1500. Sally Reisz moved the financial report be
accepted. Nick Baker seconded the
motion; the motion passed.
2006
Budget
Fr.
Morris submitted his housing allowance claim for 2006, as required by the
IRS. Andrea Morris distributed copies
of the proposed 2006 budget. Discussion
followed regarding the best way to reflect capital/major maintenance expenses
in order to clearly delineate them from ongoing operating expenses. As was agreed at the November meeting, this
budget does not include estimated major maintenance expenses.
Stewardship
Downey
Gray read a letter from John Bugbee reporting on the Stewardship Campaign. To date, we have received pledges from 121
pledging units, totaling $268,492.
There are about 22 outstanding pledges.
Letters were sent to these people on December 6 reminding them of the
pledge request. John Bugbee and Walt
Morris are willing to continue their efforts to reach the pledge goal. Downey thanked John for his efforts in
chairing the campaign.
By
Laws and Insurance
Nick
Baker submitted a letter that needs to be signed and returned to the insurance
company to renew our umbrella liability insurance policy.
Worship
Fr.
Morris reported we will have only one service on each of the next two Sundays,
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, at 10:30 am.
Christmas Eve services will be at 4:00 pm and 9:30 pm. He thanked everyone who participated in the
pageant. He noted there will be a
service Thursday evening, January 5.
This Epiphany Eve celebration will include a supper at 5:30 pm, a
service with Epiphany pageant at 6:30, followed by de-greening of the
church. Christ Church Cathedral will
have a service on Epiphany, January 6.
Jack
Reisz will take over in 2006 as chair of the Ushers Committee.
The
next Worship Committee meeting will be held January 10.
Christian
Formation
Christian
Formation classes will begin January 8.
Ned Reiter will lead the Adult Forum class on January 8, then we will
start a 6-week long class on Jesus and St. Paul, using a PBS video series. Children’s Christian Formation classes will
also resume on January 8.
House
and Grounds
Jerry
Lyndrup thanked Clyde Warner for stepping in as House and Grounds chair in
2006. Jerry reported the expenditures
for 2005 were on budget and he feels we are closer to achieving the goal of
staying ahead of maintenance problems.
Jerry will remain a member of the House & Grounds committee after
leaving the Vestry at the end of 2005.
Outreach
A
written report was submitted outlining recent outreach efforts. Sally Reisz distributed a memo that
delineated outreach grants distributed by the committee totaling $10,000.
Communication
Meg
Scharre referred the vestry to the written report. The next deadline for the Calvary Connection is December 20. She noted she had submitted a press release
to the Courier-Journal announcing Christmas services.
Parish
Life
Sandra
Cherry announced the new directories are in and are being distributed. Everyone who had his/her picture taken is to
receive a free copy, along with regular attendees. Additional copies are available for a nominal fee if anyone wants
more.
Phase
3 of the Foyers Group will begin in January, with an opening pot luck supper on
Saturday, January 21, at 6:00 p.m. in Parker Hall. Six groups have been formed with 8, 9, or 10 people in each
group. She encouraged everyone to use
the Foyer Groups as opportunities to invite visitors or new members.
We
are in need of individuals to serve as chair of two Parish Life
committees—Greeters and Hospitality.
Laina Brown suggested Marion Six and Louisa Henson should be thanked by
the Vestry for their services on Hospitality.
Laina
suggested we find a new system to ensure the kitchen is regularly stocked with
supplies. We need a kitchen budget and
should restock once a month, possibly through Cisco delivery. We should budget appropriately for
hospitality and special events, and provide guidelines for special events.
Junior
Warden
Downey
Gray announced the Vestry retreat will be held January 27-28, starting at 5:00
p.m. The cost including meals is $145
for a single room or $95 for a double.
Senior
Warden
Sally
Reisz thanked everyone for their support during her tenure as Senior
Warden. She will continue to serve on
the Program Council as well as the Finance Committee. She announced the Nominating Committee has recommended a slate of
5 candidates for the vestry for 2006, all of whom have accepted the
nomination. These are Noel Booker,
David Webb, Carrie Frazier, Ginger Ray, and Clyde Warner. The Annual Meeting will be held January 15,
2006 at 10:00 am.
The
Vestry briefly went into Executive Session to discuss a personnel matter. On completion, the regular meeting ensued.
Rector’s
Report
Fr.
Morris thanked Sally for her service as Senior Warden, as well as the other
outgoing Vestry members, Jerry Lyndrup, Sandra Cherry, Elyse Hensley, and
Jonathan Smith, for their years of service.
He asked for help in letting him know when members of the parish are ill
or in need of a visit if we should hear of such needs. He mentioned he will be on vacation December
26-January 3, and Mother Lee will be on vacation for one week beginning January
3.
The
next vestry meeting will be January 17, 2006.
The meeting closed with Compline led by Elyse Hensley.
