Chairperson of the 2006 Stewardship campaign, regarding the current status of

The vestry’s attention was drawn to the November written staff report for Music. The Worship Committee is scheduled to meet again December 6. Fr. Morris reminded the vestry of the upcoming service schedules: Thanksgiving Day at 10:30 and the pageant at 10:30 on December 18. The Rev. Tom Price, Deacon at Our Merciful Savior, will preach at the Thanksgiving Day service. The annual intergenerational Advent event is scheduled for November 27.

Christian Formation. Bob Mueller, vice president of Hospice, has lead a two-part topic on “Positive Living” at Adult Formation. Topics during Advent will include “Who is Joseph?” and “Who is Mary?”

other cleaning needs.

“turkey week” and turkey/meal donations continue to be needed. Christmas
“turkey week” will soon be upon us as well. Jim indicated that the Outreach
Committee will be visiting agencies soon so as to make recommendations of those
to receive the Outreach Grants this December. Jerry Lyndrup reported that November
3 was a workday on the 2005 Habitat for Humanities House and that December 3
will be the last workday. Volunteers are needed for painting ceilings and walls
and for making 8-10 sack lunches for those days. Jerry also said that next year
Calvary will not be able to support the project financially because the
Lutheran Church national office has decided to cover all the costs. Volunteers
will still be needed.

Staff Reports
2005 OUTREACH, MUSIC, and COMMUNICATIONS – November
Outreach:
1. Food Donations: This
report covers the period from October 12 through November 7. During this time,
we received donations of food worth $1254.00 Although we had several donations of cans from various sources
last month, our canned goods supply is again way down, and that is somewhat
scary, considering the big Thanksgiving project less than two weeks away!
2. Food Distribution: During October,
we gave out 92 food bags that fed 146 people. We are gearing up for our annual
Thanksgiving Turkey distribution that will take place on November 21, 22, and
23. Please help if you can, for it’s a great experience. And when you are
buying turkey and trimmings for your own dinner, buy an extra turkey and trimmings
and bring that to Calvary so our clients can also have a happy Thanksgiving.
3. Clothes Shops for Women and Kids: Thanks to clothing contributed exclusively by Calvary
people, and thanks to the intense interest given to this project by our weekday
volunteers, the number of people clothed at Calvary given out from October 12
to November 7 was 71. WE REALLY NEED JACKETS, SCARVES, GLOVES, and HATS!
4. Cookbook, CD, and Breads: Bill Garnar’s bread recipes are in the new Calvary cookbook
that was released recently in conjunction with a CD of the Lenten Recitals.
5. Book Aid: Books continue to come in, and are well cared for by David
Webb, with advice from Timmons Owens.
6. Crisis Care (Outreach of sorts!) Crisis Care organization is being looked at by Deacon Lee.
Let’s hope we can enlist many more volunteers. Jean Dietz and Nancy Anderson
are again on board with heading crisis care. Thanks be to God!
7. The Refugees: We are
continuing to help in whatever ways we can with all of the recent natural disasters.
8. HABITAT: Jerry Lyndrup continues to coordinate the cooperative
building of the newest Habitat house project.
MUSIC: We thank Judy Wilson for providing prelude music with a concerto for two
young cellos and two pieces played by the whole string ensemble (now numbering
12!!!!) on November 6, and we look forward to music by both that group and the
children’s choir for the Pageant, and by the adult choir for Christmas Eve. The
Adult Choir Rehearsal Dinner will be December 22 at the Bach Haus, preceded by
the rehearsal at Calvary at 4:00 p.m.
Communications:
1. THE NEXT CALVARY
CONNECTION deadline is November 20. That is a Sunday and the deadline is at
NOON in order to give time for proofing that afternoon. You will remember that a change in policy means that the
CONNECTION will now be a monthly publication, and the October CC was the first.
The deadline will always be the 20th of the month, no exceptions. If
the articles do not meet the deadline, they will be published the next month. I
really hope to stick to that, in fairness to all! The Editorial Board will now
meet on the first Wednesday of the month and accordingly met on November 2.
2. Calvary has a new logo. We are grateful to Andy Frazier for
creating the logo, and he promises us that he will find time to incorporate
that logo on the front of the CONNECTION.
3. Webmaster Jim Barnes continues to do a fantastic job of
updating and adding to the Calvary website. As of November 7, we have had 14,292
visitors to the website since March 31, 2003. As everyone has heard, the
Pictorial Directory is well underway and we expect the release sometime in
January. Sandra Cherry, Doug Spaulding, Todd O’Bryan, LaNell Barnes, Jim Barnes
and Andy Frazier are especially to be commended for work above and beyond.

Christian Formation Report
to the Vestry
November, 2005
A mini workshop of Safeguarding Our Children was conducted for four teachers in compliance with the Diocesan requirement that every teacher, youth leader and nursery caregiver be trained in sexual misconduct.
The second Via Media series held at calvary will conclude next week, November 17. Thanks to John Bugbee, Carl Hausman, and David Webb for also serving as facilitators, and also for Ned and Rhonda who lend clergy support. John and I have shared the role of co-coordinators.
The Calvary Christmas Pageant is underway with casting and costume try-ons about to begin with rehearsals scheduled in December. Mark your calendar for Sunday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. for the new Calvary Christmas Pageant: People Look East.
The annual Advent Event will be in just a few weeks, November 27 is the 1st Sunday of Advent. Plan to join us in the Parish Hall at 10:00 a.m. for an intergenerational event.
Calvary's children and youth have been very busy! Recently, students from the Godly Play I class through the Senior High Class participated in a special event for All Saints: What Saints were portrayed ?
Godly Play I: St. Francis
Godly Play II: St. Anne, St. Elizabeth, St. Lilly, St. Mary
Jr. High: St. Christopher
Sr. High: St. John the Baptist
Bringing everyone together to share information made for a wonderful and edifying experience. See the bulletin board upsairs for more details and photographs.
Over seven families from Calvary participated, or were represented, at the Cathedral of the Assumption.for the Community Celebration of Thanksgiving service as part of the Festival of Faiths, organized by Suzie Egger. The Fulton family greeted people and handed out bulletins. Rosemary Wilson, Tori Long, and Mary Jane Booker were acolytes, Franklin Starks was a reader, and I was there to lend Suzie moral support. Junior High students prepared art work which will be on display all week at the Cathedral's undercroft.
