Morris offered an opening meditation and prayer.
Committee Reports
Finance:
Noel Booker
presented the financial statements for June 2007. This is the mid-point of the
year. He noted that pledges were coming in about $1,000 over budget and about
$30,000 ahead of 2006 at the same time. The endowment continues to grow nicely.
Jamie Hendon moved
that the finance reports for both May & June be accepted; Seconded by Clyde
Warner. Motion carried.
Noel presented the
financial audits for 2005 & 2006. Everything looks in good shape.
Downey Gray moved
that the audit reports for both 2005 & 2006 be accepted; Seconded by Clyde
Warner. Motion carried.
Stewardship:
Tom Fulton noted
that John Bugbee will be preparing the grant as noted
in the minutes from May. He will emphasize not just the buildings and their
historical importance. Calvary’s outreach will also be described to show we’re
involved in the community at large.
Worship:
Marsha Webb
detailed the items covered in the last Worship Committee meeting.
Fr. Morris noted
that the attendance at services this summer has been a little above this same
time last year. He noted that he’s considering the possibility of maintaining
all three (3) services next summer.
Christian Formation:
David Webb noted
Callie Hausman’s report. He also detailed the value
of the EFM program and encouraged everyone on the Vestry to give attendance
some thought.
Carrie Frazier
expressed her appreciation to Noel Booker and Progress Paint for the donation
of the paint to paint the class rooms. Also noted were the efforts of Callie
Hausman, Anita Richardson and Ginger Ray. Volunteers for painting are needed
this coming Saturday (9AM – 3PM).
Vacation Bible
School starts next week.
Property Committee:
Clyde Warner passed
out the minutes of the last Property Committee meeting on July 8th.
He noted that the leak in the church has been found and repaired. He also has
the best bid on fencing the church yard.
Ginger Ray noted
that John Korfhage has agreed to do the landscaping
on the side. She would like to see some security lights put in to keep people
from sleeping in the flower beds. Michael Hensley has been looking for lights.
Mounting them will be the expensive part of this project.
Fr. Morris noted
that he would like to see something done about the trees in the front of the
church. They have grown to the point where they cover the front of the church.
Outreach:
Ginger Ray &
Callie Hausman took a car load of children’s clothes that had been donated to
Calvary to Engelhard Elementary School. The people there were very grateful.
Communication:
Carrie Frazier
detailed the meetings the Committee had in June. They have formed a “Marketing
& PR” sub-committee. This committee will study ways to “brand” Calvary
Church and promote it’s
image and visibility in the community.
Parish Life:
Ginger Ray noted
that the Parish Picnic will be Sunday, September 16th at 1PM
(immediately following the morning service). A kick-off meeting for the Fund
Raising Committee will be this coming Sunday.
Junior Warden:
Noel Booker noted
that all of the Vestry members are welcome to come paint the classrooms this
Saturday.
Senior Warden:
There was no report
Rector:
Fr. Morris noted
that Fr. Ben Sanders is being treated for cancer. He asked that we all keep Ben & Mary in our prayers.
Old Business:
Jamie Hendon gave a
report on the Long Range Planning Report. He noted that the Vestry needs to
approve the plan as detailed in the report of the Steering Committee to the
Long Range Planning Committee (July 29, 2006) and the letter on the “Long Range
Plan 2007” that was sent out to the congregation along with feedback forms.
He noted that this
is an evolving, dynamic plan and that it will change over the years as things
are accomplished, new items are added and the membership of the Long Range
Planning Committee changes.
Downey Gray
suggested that the any motion to accept this plan be tabled until the August
meeting so that everyone on the Vestry can study the materials. All agreed.
It was also agreed
that the Long Range Planning Committee’s recommendation for a fund-raising consultant
be presented at the same time.
New Business:
There was no new
business.
Announcements:
Fr. Morris noted
that Vestry Papers publication put
out by the Episcopal Church Foundation will be in each Vestry member’s packet
for reading. He asked that we all pay special attention to each issue.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the
Vestry is August 28, 2007 @ 5:15 PM. Meeting will be held at Calvary Church
with Noel Booker officiating Compline.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:12 PM
with Compline
officiated by Morris Belknap.
Respectfully submitted,
David L. Stewart
