Committee Reports

Finance:

Noel Booker presented the financial statements through April 2007. He noted that we are a third of the way through the year and that trends are taking shape.  Cash continues to improve; we’re up $13,000 over last month. Pledges are $22,000 over YTD Budget. Total Revenue is about $9.000 over YTD Budget. Acct. 4040 – Endowment Income is over-stated by $9,000 due to an error. For the year, we’re in the black. Larry Frederiksen moved that the report be accepted; Seconded by Clyde Warner. Motion carried.

Noel Booker presented a report from Jim Barnes, Parish Treasurer about Lay Employee Participation in the Church Pension Group. Due to a change in participation eligibility rules, the Vestry Executive Committee recommends that the church allow lay employees to participate immediately. Noel Booker made the motion that the Vestry approve a waiver of the one year eligibility requirement for lay employee participation in the Church Pension Group. Corky Sachs seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Stewardship:

Larry Frederiksen noted the committee met this past Sunday. John Bugbee is going to prepare a grant to the W.L. Lyons Brown Foundation for money for “brick and mortar” items. The grant is for historic preservation of Calvary Church.

September 30, 2007 is the tentative date for our kick-off of our Stewardship campaign.

Worship:

Marsha Webb noted the committee met on May 1. She talked about the possibility of joining with other area churches on Palm Sunday. Congratulatory comments were offered to Mary Catherine Wright for such a moving sermon this past Sunday. Next meeting of the Worship Committee will be June 5 at 5:00PM. May 27th is Pentecost Sunday & June 3 is Trinity Sunday. The Bishop’s visit will be on June 3.. June 3 will also be the first Sunday of 8:00AM and 10:30AM Services.

Christian Formation:

Fr. Morris noted the number of youth that will be confirmed on June 3. “Why the Episcopal Church” series has been a great success.

Property Committee:

Clyde Warner reported that a couple of more holes have been broken in one of the windows. “Animal ridders” were not able to capture any raccoons in the basement. The committee is working on meeting the requirements mandated by the Fire Marshal. Clyde has a date with the roofer on May 23 to take a look at the problem with the leak in the back of the church. He also has an estimate for an iron fence around the courtyard; Anita Richards is getting two more estimates. The next meeting is June 10 following the Sunday service.

Outreach:

Nancy Anderson noted the report by Margaret Dickinson. Fr. Morris noted that the Board has taken a much more active stand in the running of the ministry. Margaret Dickinson has retired as the secretary of Help Ministries. Fr. Morris noted how grateful he is for all her hard work. Help Ministries needs more volunteers.

Communication:

Morris Belknap had no report. Carrie Frazier was out of town on business. She emailed Fr. Morris and Dave Stewart a note about this. She wrote that the next Communication meeting was scheduled for mid-June. The first Marketing Committee meeting will be in mid-June as well.

Parish Life:

Fr. Morris reported on Calvary Camp at All Saints. It was a great time primarily due to having two nights to participate. The kids had a great time. New folks were there as well as long-time parishioners. A different time of year is under consideration. Calvary Camp 2008 may be rescheduled for September.

Corky Sachs noted that both performances of the dinner theatre were sold out. The event raised between $3,000 and $4,000. Many of the attendees were not members; they were impressed by the warmth of the members.

Marsha Webb told about the softball group this past Sunday. The Calvary team attained a moral victory.

Ginger Ray noted ideas for Parish Life that are in the works. She presented the fund raiser idea presented earlier by Tom Fulton. Tom had provided examples of the “hearts” used in the fundraiser in Memphis. She showed one idea of how to make this work for Calvary as a money maker.

Fr. Morris noted the upcoming Calvary Drama Camp. Registration to-date is only about 10. We need 27 to break even. The deadline has been extended to May 29.

Junior Warden:

Noel Booker noted the information Margaret put in the packet on the Clothes Closet guidelines. He wants to put up a sign noting hours for the distribution of clothes. Ginger Ray made a motion that we accept the guidelines with noted changes. Morris Belknap seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Senior Warden:

Jamie Hendon noted that the fund raising efforts by the Parish Life Committee need to be supported by the entire Vestry, not just the committee. He detailed a concern by a parishioner that the grants presented to some programs were going to non-Calvary entities.

Rector:

Fr. Morris will be away October 1-8, 2007 for at the Credo Institute. He noted that Fr. Ben Sanders had tests that found cancer in a lymph node. He is on the prayer list.

Old Business:

Jamie Hendon noted the Long Range Planning Report. The next meeting will be June 2 at 10:00AM. The purpose is to get as much feedback from other parishioners so we can move to a stage where we examine the feasibility of accomplishing these things. Next LR Steering Committee meeting will be on May 30th at 5:00 PM at Calvary.

New  Business:

No new business was reported.
