Minutes of April meeting

Nick Baker moved the approval of the April 25, 2006 minutes of the vestry; seconded by Clyde Warner. Motion carried.

Committee Reports

Finance:

Ned Morris presented the financial statements through April. Clyde Warner moved that the report be accepted; Nick Baker seconded. Motion carried.

Ned noted that the YTD Budget recorded for account 4050 (Endowment Income/Operating) was incorrect. It should read $102, 500. The calculating error would be corrected for the next meeting. Ginger Ray and Clyde Warner questioned whether account 3135 was previously called the Preservation Fund. Jim Barnes was asked to research it. The subject is to be placed on the agenda of the next vestry meeting.

Stewardship:

Downey Gray reported that Whitney Hardy has agreed to chair this year’s Every Member Canvass. The vestry had earlier agreed that this year’s campaign would be conducted similarly to the Kentucky Plan used several years ago.

By-Laws/Insurance/Legal:

Nick Baker distributed the second draft of the By-Laws containing revisions suggested since the April vestry meeting. He would like to have these approved at the next meeting of the vestry. Nick also reported that the cost of repair to the kitchen window (through which a heavy chain had been thrown) would probably be within the deductible amount. The insurance company and the police had been notified.

Worship:

Jim Barnes drew the vestry’s attention to the May written staff report for Music. He further reported that training for Chalicists would be held on Sunday, May 21, immediately after the 11:00 service. He also reminded the vestry that three principal feast days were approaching: May 28 (The Seventh Sunday of Easter/Sunday after Ascension), June 4 (The Day of Pentecost/Whitsunday) and June 11 (Trinity Sunday). The Bishop’s annual visitation and Confirmation will be on June 11. Incense will be used on June 4 and June 11. Ned Morris reported that the a portion of or all of the Old Testament Lesson on June 4 would be read in different languages (“divided tongues”) as described in the reading from Acts appointed for that Sunday. Also, that the Children’s Choir will sing that day.

Ned Morris reported that Richard Humke would be leading the Adult Forum when the Fall Forum Session opens in September – the topic is Iran. Ned also reported that a new director of the children’s choir is being sought as Elyse Hensley has asked to be replaced.

Christian Formation:

David Webb drew the vestry’s attention to the May written staff report for Christian Formation. He noted that the Calvary Camp at All Saints went well.

Building, House and Grounds:

Clyde Warner reported that it is believed that the problems with the ADT alarm system are due to a faulty electrical panel (installed originally by the previous alarm company that merged with ADT). The telephone system may also be involved and if a new panel does not correct the situation, Compatible Communications will be asked to review the internal phone system.

Nancy Anderson showed the vestry a reconditioned cushion for the sedilia. She reported that all the cushions will be reconditioned and perhaps parishioners might want to buy a cushion to help defray the costs.

Carl Hausman is in discussion with Speed Museum regarding the value of/cost of repair to the Nativity and Crucifixion paintings in the Sanctuary.

Outreach:

Jim Barnes drew the vestry’s attention to the May written staff report for Outreach.

Communication:

The vestry’s attention was drawn to the May written staff report for Communication. Ned Morris reported that Andy and Carrie Frazier were in the process of designing an ad for Calvary to place in the newspaper.

   Parish Life:

Ginger Ray reported that discussions regarding the Clothes Closet were continuing and that advice and suggestions from Ben Small and others were in the process. Ginger reported that $1505 was raised from the sale of the clothing donated by “She of Louisville Inc”. Ginger asked that vestry members write a thank you to Annette Grisanti. Art and Jean Dietz and Corky Sachs were thanked for their work on the bake sale that, Ginger reported, netted $585 in addition to the clothing sales. The Bake Sale proceeds are to go into the Fund Raising account, however Ginger asked that the proceeds from the clothes sale be restricted for use in defraying some of the costs of the clothes closet project. David Webb moved that the monies raised from the sale of the clothing donated by She of Louisville be placed in a temporary restricted fund account to be used to address the costs of the clothes closet project including any necessary construction expenses associated with or as a result of the location of the clothes closet; David Stewart seconded. Motion carried.

The Softball season is underway. Ned Morris reported highlights of the first game.

He noted that next year’s Calvary Camp at All Saints will be an overnight January 27 with a worship service on Sunday morning there at the camp.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION REPORT

TO THE VESTRY

May, 2006

Calvary Camp is this coming weekend and we have some very excited families joyfully looking forward to being together for fellowship, Bible study, games, dancing, hiking, worship and renewal, as well as much, much more.  We will also take a look at the construction site and view the progress, which we already anticipate using next year.

Confirmation classes have begun and there are four youth participating in the Sunday Morning classes.  We look forward to a dinner on June 4 with parents and sponsors, as well as the picnic with Bishop Gulick on June 11.

At the end of April, several classes participated in beautifying our church by planting Impatiens in the small “garden” in the North parking lot.  The Youth classes discussed the use in the Book of Common Prayer of the many ways in which we honor the world that God created.  The students also wrote their own prayer reflecting ways we follow God's call to us to care of not only each other, but also the larger world.

On May 28, you are invited to attend the “Graduation Ceremony” at 10:00 in Parker Hall when we will be honoring students, teachers, volunteers, and parents.  Christian Formation classes will conclude with the ceremony for the 2005/2006 year, and will resume on September 10.  Please join us and show your support and appreciation for all those who tend to our faith formation.
