By-Laws/Insurance/Legal:

Nick Baker reported that he was currently obtaining a disk containing the By-Laws and that regular reports will be made as the work progresses.

Worship:

Jim Barnes drew the vestry’s attention to the March written staff report for Music. He noted that the Worship Committee will meet again on March 28 (a combined March-April meeting) to discuss the up-coming services: Palm Sunday services: 8:00 and 10:45 (with incense) with a palm procession around the outside of the church, weather permitting; Maundy Thursday service (with incense): 7:00 with an Agape meal preceding the service; Holy Eucharist celebrated at 12:05 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week and on Good Friday; Holy Saturday is planned as a clean-up-the-church day with lunch; Easter services at 8:00 and 11:00 (with incense).

Christian Formation:

David Webb drew the vestry’s attention to the March written staff report for Christian Formation. David also reported that he, Gail Richardson and Callie Hausman attended and led workshops at the Diocesan Leadership Conference at All Saints. David is the Calvary representative to the Diocesan Department of Christian Formation and Callie has been elected as chairperson of that department.

Building, House and Grounds:

Clyde reported that the programmable thermostats have been installed; a leak in the south vestibule is caused by deteriorated window sills in the south tower; a leak in the nave is being investigated as is repair to the steps near the north tower and plastering in the Nave; enhancements to the women’s restroom near the kitchen are nearly complete; the locks for the west doors have been approved. Following discussion of the leak caused by the sill damage, Nick Baker moved that Clyde be authorized to use his best judgment regarding a fair price and to proceed with repair of the sills; Andrea Morris seconded. Motion carried.

Outreach:

Jim Barnes drew the vestry’s attention to the March written staff report for Outreach. Jim noted especially the Lenten Recital Series from which the proceeds from a free-will offering will be sent to the Dean of the Cathedral of New Orleans, David duPlantier, to assist Katrina victims in their recovery. Also, the Help Ministries of Central Louisville is trying to raise funds to win a matching grant from Metro Council Utility Commission to assist clients with heating bills. For every dollar contributed, Metro Council matches it and LG&E doubles it.

Communication:

Meg Scharre drew the vestry’s attention to the March written staff report for Communication. She also noted that the newspaper has been doing a good job of advertising the Lenten Recital Series.

   Parish Life:

Ginger Ray reported that the fund-raising committee is considering several activities: a youth activity, a bazaar, a bake sale and others. Fund-raising proceeds have amounted to $1369.20 so far this year. Elizabeth Fick Koppen has agreed to handle the E-bay consignment shop for Calvary. Also reported was an appraisal of crosses found in the Sacristy safe - $708.

Junior Warden:

Jamie Hendon reported on the conference on endowed parishes that he and Ned Morris had attended. He indicated that a full report and recommendations from the Endowment Advisory Committee would be forthcoming after that committee has had an opportunity to review the meeting materials.

Senior Warden:

Downey Gray, following up on the report by the Junior Warden, noted that it was time to move forward with plans for a capital campaign and to obtain the assistance of a consultant. Jamie Hendon noted that the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes, which sponsored the conference he just attended, provides all the assistance needed in this regard. In view of this, Jamie moved that Calvary become a member of the Consortium; seconded by Corky Sachs. Motion carried. A study committee was appointed to hold preliminary discussions and to help put together an approach to/steps needed in a plan for a capital campaign; the committee: Nancy Anderson, Noel Booker, Downey Gray, Jamie Hendon, Corky Sachs, David Stewart, and Clyde Warner.

Downey also reported that Jay Magness is in a run-off election for Bishop of Tennessee.

Assistant Rector:

Rhonda Lee reported that she continues with pastoral visits and Sunday duties. The Adult Forum Lenten sessions on the Letter to the Hebrews will continue. Also, she will lead the Lenten Quiet Morning on Saturday, March 25.

Rector:

Ned Morris reported that he will conduct a communion instruction session on Sunday March 26 for children, youth and their parents. He also reported that Confirmation sessions for 8th graders begin Sunday, April 23, and an adult Enquirers class (a refresher course on Anglicanism/Episcopalianism) will begin Thursday, April 27 – both in anticipation of the Bishop’s visitation on June 11. Ned also reported on the ill of the parish. He also reported that he will be making a Continuing Education retreat April 2 – April 6.

Old Business:

Downey Gray reported on the matter regarding some acknowledgment of the art work of Kyle Hibbs in the Library that had been referred to the Executive Committee. The Committee recommends that a commemorative inscription be placed on the wall describing each of the apostolic symbols used and crediting Kyle with the artistry. Ginger Ray agreed to look into how this might be done and to report back.

New Business:

Jamie Hendon noted that he had been thinking about the vestry decision not to declare his seat on the Calvary Endowment Advisory Committee vacant when he was elected Junior Warden, an ex-officio member of that committee. Rather than fill two spaces, he would like to see someone appointed to fill out his term that ends this year. No action was taken at this time.
