Committee Reports
Finance:
Noel Booker presented the
financial statements through January 2007. Highlights:
·
More money went out in January than came in. The
money spent in January 2007 was more than was spent in January 2006
·
Accts. 1000 & 1005 down from December but ahead
of this time last year.
·
Total Cash & Securities increased $133,000 since
end of year; primarily appreciation
·
Expenses haven’t changed much. LG&E ½ of 2006.
January 2007 will be higher due to colder temperatures.
·
Other Expenses have minor changes. Expenses for new
Sexton are in the budget but will go from “Custodial Expense” category to
“Staff”. Leroy Malone will be the Sexton beginning in March.
·
Income from pledges for 2007 was about $2000 lower
vs. 2006. Endowment income was up.
Corky Sachs moved that the report be accepted;
Seconded by Morris Belknap. Motion carried.
Stewardship:
Larry Frederiksen attended the
workshop at the Diocesan Convention. There will be a meeting in March to set up
“year around” effort. He noted that for every family that leaves the church we
need to bring in three (3) families in order to grow as a congregation over
time.
Worship:
Marsha Webb noted that first
meeting will be first week in March. Fr. Morris noted the solemness of the
worship service due to Lent.
Christian Formation:
David Webb referred the Vestry
to the February 2007 report by Callie Hausman. The next meeting is March 1 at
10:30AM.
Carrie Frazier recommended a “coming together” of the kids before or after an
event to explain the reason and meaning of the event to them.
Property Committee:
Clyde Warner noted that the
South Tower & the balcony need work before the Youth can use the area.
Clyde estimates a cost of $5,000 - $10,000 for the work. He is working with Callie
Hausman on the needed repairs and changes. The Youth are working to raise the
money. Fr. Morris noted that it’s refreshing to have youth who are interested
in this type of thing.
Weather has been too cold to replace windows in Fellowship Hall & in kitchen.
Nick Baker and Jerry Lyndrup are
working on pews that have split and need to be repaired.
This past Sunday following the
morning service there was a Property Committee meeting.
Clyde noted that the Fire
Marshall was concerned with storing the clothes for the Clothes Closet in the
entry area.
Clyde met with an architect to
discuss how the Calvary Church building might be expanded to allow for the
growth projected by the Long Range Plan.
Fr. Morris noted that two (2)
new programmable thermostats have been installed. He has seen a difference both
in the comfort level and the cost of utilities.
Fr. Morris noted the new soft
drink machine is in place. Calvary Church makes approximately $.35 per drink
sold.
Fr. Morris met with a rep from
Bittner’s. Will Cary has asked them to quote on what it takes to restore and
refurbish the wood in the Sanctuary. He will give money for this in honor of
his mother. This is a very generous gift.
Outreach:
Jamie Hendon noted the report by
Margaret Dickenson on the history of the Clothes Closet. Noel Booker reported
on the meeting that he and Ginger Ray had to discuss the Clothes Closet
following the Vestry Retreat. He noted that they put together guidelines that
recommended three (3) differences with the past history. However these are very
close to what has traditionally been done. It should not be a problem to mesh
the ideas. Margaret and Ginger have met to discuss this. Nancy Anderson will
contact Margaret and Ginger to “get up to speed.”
Fr. Morris detailed the arrival
of the Korean couple, Jeffery and Olivia. They will be back on March 18th
with an interpreter. There will be a presentation at the Fellowship Hour that
day.
According to Fr. Morris, the
Englehart Elementary School Task Force has been meeting. Marsh Webb reminded
the Vestry members that General Mills box tops can be collected to raise funds
for the school.
Fr. Morris noted that Jeff Webb
is coordinating a trip to Gulf Coast in April to work to rebuild parts of
Mississippi. There will be an informational meeting on Sunday March 3.
Communication:
The Calvary Connection deadline
is March 18.
Carrie is still working out a
meeting schedule for the Communications Committee. There will be an official
report at the next Vestry meeting.
Parish Life:
Corky Sachs announced that the
next fund raiser is on April 27 & 28. Peggy Silliman is the Chair of an
exciting and imaginative event arranged as “Cabaret for Actors” where Mary Ann
Richardson & Roger Fristoe (BrandyWine Ensemble Performance) will perform
as “Noel C. and Mrs. P” (Sir Noel Coward & Dorothy Parker). LaNell Barnes
will be at the piano; Jim Barnes will be the MC. Everyone on the Vestry should
attend.
More people are needed to host
the Hospitality Hour.
Junior Warden:
Noel Booker had no report as Junior
Warden.
Senior Warden:
Jamie Hendon noted the need for
more volunteers at Calvary Church.
He will visit each Committee
Chair & Liaison to insure that there are Committee meetings before the next
Vestry meeting.
Carrie Frazier, Ginger Ray, Noel
Booker & Fr. Morris are going with Jamie tomorrow (2/28) to the Consortium
of Endowed Episcopal Parishes Meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Jamie passed out copies of
“Issues & Trends,” the paper for The Consortium of Endowed Episcopal
Parishes.
