Diocesan Pledge – form and amount

The Vestry agreed that Fr. Morris shall send a letter to the Diocese pledging $52,000 with an explanation as to why this amount is less than 15% of the budget as required by the Diocese. The letter will note that this is an increase in the percent pledged over last year, and that the Vestry and Financial Committee are working on a plan to bring the pledge amount up to the required 15%.

Change of Vestry meeting schedule:

Tom Fulton, a new member of the Vestry, has a conflict with the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The Vestry resolved to change the meeting night to the 4th Tuesday of the month.

Youth Representative to the Vestry

The Vestry discussed the addition of a youth representative to the Vestry as allowed by the Canon. The position must be filled by someone who is between the ages of 16 and 18 years old at the time of the appointment by the Vestry. The appointment will be for one (1) year and the position will have a vote in Vestry matters. Fr. Morris presented the names of two of Calvary’s youth who had expressed and interest in being on the Vestry. One is Mary Catherine Wright and the other is Haley Hensley. Due to some questions about age, the discussion was tabled for action during the Vestry Retreat in February.

Committee Reports

Finance:

Jamie Hendon led a discussion of an explanation of the balance sheet with comments and questions. It was an active year for church maintenance. The next Finance Committee meeting is set for February 8 at 4:30 (a correction to the agenda).

Stewardship:

Downey Gray urged the work on stewardship to continue year round, not just in September.

Worship:

Fr. Morris spoke for Jim Barnes. A meeting will be held January 21 for all those interested in becoming Eucharistic Visitors after the 11:00 o’clock service on January 28. The next Worship Committee meeting is January 30.

Christian Formation:

David Webb reported that the Youth Progressive Dinner is this Sunday, January 21. It begins with a Eucharist at 4:30 in Parker Hall, followed by appetizers. The group will carpool to the Crawford’s for dinner, and then on to the Starks’ for dessert.

Property Committee:

Clyde Warner reported that the broken windows in the Parish Hall have been fixed. The church structures continue to be maintained by a “band aid” approach and we survived a visit from the fire marshal. An explanation of how the Property Program Committee evolved from the House and Grounds Committee was presented to the new members of the Vestry.

New Vestry member Michael Hensley volunteered to serve on this committee.

Outreach:

Jamie Hendon led a discussion regarding the Clothes Closet Ministry Discernment. The committee to discuss the future of the Clothes Closet includes Jamie Hendon, Laina Brown, Noel Booker, Beverly Haverstock, Margaret Dickinson, Anna Havrolesko, and Fr. Morris.

Fr. Morris and Jeff Webb are working on plans for a trip to the Diocese of Mississippi Gulf coast to provide relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The deadline for input for the next Calvary Connection is January 18.

Old Business:

Long Range Planning Committee - Fr. Morris reported on a very good meeting. The courtyard requires attention and needs to be secured. An appropriate fencing such as wrought iron would cost about $20,000. A playground is being considered

New  Business:

There was no old business to discuss.

Fr. Morris referred to the agenda for announcement items: Vestry Retreat at Wooded Glen Conference and Retreat Center in Henry County Indiana February 9-10, Diocesan Convention Feb 23-24, and the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes Meeting March 1-3.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Vestry is February 27, 2007 @ 5:15 PM. Meeting will be held at Calvary Church. Jamie Hendon will officiate Compline.
